EAST COUNTY - More than 200 people turned out Saturday to celebrate the dedication of the Bible Baptist Church’s new worship center.
The 5,500-square-foot facility was four years and $200,000 in the making, Pastor Lupe Sanchez said.
“It took us four years, but the important thing is that we’re debt free,” he said.
The new building sits on six acres of land.
Located at 10984 FM 1485 and Waukeegan, the Bible Baptist Church’s new building features a “very nice” cathedral ceiling, Sanchez said. The church will hold regular Sunday services for the first time today at 11 a.m., with Sunday evening services at 6 p.m.
The church will use its original worship building as a fellowship hall and for teaching Sunday school classes, Sanchez said.
Bible Baptist Church celebrated Saturday with free barbecue lunches and invited a fire truck, ambulance and police car for kids to see.
Free barbecue lunches will be available today starting at noon after the Sunday services, Sanchez said.
The congregation will celebrate its new building all this week by holding meetings at its camp located at Brown Road at FM 1485, Sanchez said.
Camp services are at 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, preceded by dinner at 5 p.m. The complete Tuesday through Thursday schedule includes breakfast at 8:30 a.m., services at 10 a.m., and lunch at noon.
